The support for these paintings is canvas on board coated with six layers of gesso, giving a smooth slightly absorbent surface. The image is produced with inks, watercolour and pigment, each mark is recorded and cannot be eradicated, history is ever visible. Finally the surface is burnished to produce a soft sheen which transforms the dense matt layers into deep pools of colour.
